The Cafe M continues to be at the sharp-end of Berlin's cafe bar scene although many of its customers have tended to grow old with the bar. The bars roots stem from the post-punk scene but it still attracts a fair number of students and tourists who like to 'see and be seen'. No matter how packed, the mood always seems to remain relaxed and laid-back. The line of tables outside are always full of cool dudes on warm summer days. The M remains a cheering prospect for Vegetarians with the Italian breakfast highly recommendable. The freshly pressed orange juice and milk coffee are ordered with amazing regularity by the slightly aloof, young to mid-forties crowd. Basically, if you like to be amongst a set of posers then go for it.

The cafes' red neon lit sign can be seen from any angle across the beautiful Viktoria Luise-Platz. You will be spoilt for choice at breakfast time as the menu offers 20 gorgeous lip-smackers. You can choose from Danish, Italian, Finnish to English, so there is something to please everyone. For guests who feel in a luxurious mood and want to treat themselves, then look no further than the 'Montevideo-Special' - a full, tasty breakfast for two people which has cold meats, salmon, eggs and sparkling wine. The level of service is excellent and hasn't changed since the cafe moved from across the square a number of years ago.

Always crowded gay and lesbian scene cafe, but even heterosexuals will enjoy an afternoon coffee and a slice of some of the best cake in Berlin.
