You can arrange an international money transfer through Western Union. The Berlin agent for this service the Reisebank , which has branches at Ostbahnhof, Zoo & Friedrichstraße stations.

It takes a matter of minutes to complete a money transfer.

To receive money, arrange for someone to attend a Western Union branch where they will need to:

  • Fill out a "To send money" form.
  • Provide payment to the Agent in cash - including the amount to be sent and the appropriate fee(s).
  • Get the receipt that includes the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN).

Then go to a Western Union branch and:

  • Fill out a "To receive money" form.
  • For faster service, contact your sender for MTCN
  • Present the "To receive money" form, MTCN and valid identification to the Western Union agent.

These transfers are quick and efficient, but not cheap. If you transfer less than DM400 you´ll end up paying a commission of more than 10%. As of about DM2000, the commission falls to 5% and less.
