The most internationally staffed economic institution in Berlin is the IIC. Their stated goal is to assist international investors looking at Berlin and the 6 eastern states (now known as the New German States). It was originally established at the end of 1996 by the Federal government through funds from the Privatisation Agency for former East German Assets (Treuhand Anstalt). It is mostly independent from the Berlin government.

The Berlin Business Development Corporation (BBDC) supports and advises investors within and beyond Berlin and beyond Germany. It cooperates with other state and privately owned Berlin economic development and marketing institutions ; i.e.Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) , Berlin Foreign Marketing Service (BAO), Senate Department for Economics , and the Industrial Investment Council (IIC).
The BBDC was established in 1978 by the State of Berlin with the aim of supporting business investment, offering free and confidential services for anyone seeking help.
Its services include: detailed information on Berlin as a location for industry and commerce, regional markets and the real estate market, and consultation on subsidies, financing and management plans.

Primary goal of the BAO is to assist Berlin companies to expand internationally, with the focus on the EU, Poland and Russia. Secondary goal - in cooperation with the BEDC - is assisting international companies considering or moving to Berlin.
The BAO provides advice on import and export issues, foreign trade and payments legislation, joint ventures and public contracting. It also provides information on EU related topics. In addition, it organizes Berlin display stands at international trade shows, delegation trips and Berlin presentations internationally, supports foreign economic delegations, mediates contacts and promotes the Berlin-Brandenburg economic region.
